Birdbuddy's current membership comparison says a free account provides automatic photos and videos, personal live viewing, manual AI+ recognition and downloads. Automatic AI+, some high-resolution options and guest access to a live stream belong to paid tiers. Wording on a product page can differ from the live app plan, especially with a trial, so check both.
Birdbuddy Pro Solar: if the close feeder portrait is the draw
The blue Pro Solar shown here has a solar roof. Its tight focus is designed for birds at the perch, not as a security camera watching the whole garden. That is a strength if you want feather detail and app postcards; it is a limitation if you intend to watch a wide lawn or a second feeder.
The solar roof helps charge the removable camera module, but it cannot guarantee uninterrupted operation through a dull UK winter. Leave enough room to remove the module and reach the feeding tray. Before buying a pole, confirm the supplied mount and the loaded weight, including wet food and wind exposure.
Birdbuddy 2: if framing and housing are priorities
The Birdbuddy 2 shown here has a dual-solar roof, bigger seed storage and portrait-or-landscape orientation. Birdbuddy's current Home specification describes dual-band Wi-Fi and the rotating camera arrangement. Retail names and generations can change, so match the box and model identifier rather than treating every Birdbuddy 2 or “Home” offer as identical.
More capacity is convenient only when food turns over quickly. Filling a large hopper for a quiet garden can leave seed damp. The RSPB's current advice limits seed and peanuts to November–April and calls for weekly cleaning and relocation. A removable, accessible food chamber is therefore a more important buying detail than nominal capacity alone.
The ongoing cost question
